Former ABMF Scholarship recipient, Maria Millar, and her partner, Shawn Wyckoff, have teamed up under the stage name Sonic Escape, pushing the boundaries of music through original, inspirational performances featuring flute & violin.
Sonic Escape will be kicking off the Fairmont Chamber Music Society’s concert season in West Virginia before heading back to Toronto to create 6 music videos of their new compositions. Thanks to an award from Canada Council for the Arts, they will be filming everything from live, interactive world premieres to choreographed outdoor shoots!
In addition, Maria’s arrangement of Sakura was just licensed for a first run of 12,400 printings as part of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music’s new curriculum! Sold in 93 countries, Sakura will introduce violinists around the world to Maria’s technique of transforming the sound of a violin into a koto/shamisen.
Sonic Escape’s Guide to Performing is their online offering for young musicians. Here’s a video on how to cue: https://youtu.be/7FpaI5NQJgA?t=139.
