Congrats to drum artist Karl Schwonik, who has recently received a number of accolades. In June 2017, he was included in CBC's list of the 35 best Canadian jazz artists under 35!
His band was also named the winner of the 2017 Reinstein Jazz Competition hosted by the University of Cambridge. This is one of the top competitions in Europe and comes with a cash prize as well as a performance at a London jazz club. Finally, he will be moving to the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, in August, to take on an Associate Dean position at Medicine Hat College! Jason Cutmore, former ABMF recipient, accomplished pianist, and founder of the Alberta Pianofest Society, is presenting the Society's third festival since their formation in 2011. This year's Alberta Pianofest will have a wider range of events than previous years with 10 concerts, including four major-artist recitals, a young artists’ showcase, and, new for this year, a number of pre-concert talks and panel discussions.
