Concert pianist and former ABMF Scholarship recipient, Angela Cheng, will have a busy upcoming season teaching a Masterclass at the Toronto Summer Music Festival in July 2017, and performing the Ravel Piano Concerto in G Major with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in October 2017 and with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in January 2018. Congratulations to former ABMF scholarship recipient and distinguished trumpeter, Jens Lindemann, for receiving the MacEwan Medal of Excellence in June 2017! Sonic Escape, which includes former scholarship recipient Maria Millar, has received rave reviews for their performance of an original show called "Celtic with a Twist", They will be performing it for one last season, 2017-18, including limited availability in March 2018 (the month of St. Patrick's Day), so book now!
Sonic Escape has also been busy travelling from Iqaluit, NU to Miami, FL to create "Four Seasons Rising", a 4-part symphonic work that features solo violin and flute. Each movement showcases a distinct musical style and a region whose way of life will forever be impacted by climate change. Maria has just recorded "Fall" from "Four Seasons Rising", which they are hoping to perform with non-MIDI orchestras across the globe during the 2018-19 season. They encourage anyone to contact them with ideas on how to make that a reality!

Former ABMF recipient, Mikolaj Warszynsky, will be putting on a piano recital titled LISZTOMANIA on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 at 2:30p.m. at the Convocation Hall in the Old Arts Building of the University of Alberta under the auspices of The Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies in collaboration with Mazurka Music and Art. The Concert is a Wirth Institute initiative in support of mental health awareness on campus. Admission is by donation and all proceeds benefit mental health initiatives on campus.
LISZTOMANIA takes place a day prior to Blue Monday (the third Monday in January) which is reported to be the most depressing day of the year. Beat the Blues and attend a unique musical event which aims to invigorate the spirits of all music lovers! On the program are an assortment of some of the best-loved piano works of the legendary pianist and composer Franz Liszt. The Recital will also be recorded live and released as a CD on the Wirth Institute Label!
Sonic Escape filmed their very first music video using drones at Lake Anna, VA! This live performance integrates Irish music with the Game of Thrones theme, and is a great example of how uplifting and powerful instrumental music can be. Check it out here!
Concert pianist and former ABMF Scholarship recipient, Angela Cheng, will be performing with Alvin Chow at the Winspear this weekend to support the Lillian Osborne Community Theatre - a place where children and youth will be able to present and perform theatre, music, and dance programs in the Terwillegar area. We encourage you to come out and enjoy a beautiful evening of music while supporting this wonderful cause!
